Pacquiao vs Mosley: Does Manny Pacquiao Possess Killer Instinct?

LAS VEGAS -- Don't get Manny Pacquiao angry. You would not like him when he's angry.

So don't say something that's going to tick him off prior to a fight, especially if you are the eight-division champion's upcoming opponent.

According to Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, that sort of thing might just earn you a butt-kicking.

"Trash talking. Manny just doesn't like that. He's never done that. If there is any trash talking, then it's by me," said Roach, a five-time Trainer of The Year.

"If I predict a knockout, it's not trash talking, it's just because I have confidence in my fighter," said Roach. "But Manny won't say that he's going to knock anybody out because he respects everyone that he fights."

That certainly is true about five-time champion Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 knockouts), who, on Saturday night, will try to lift from Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) the WBO welterweight belt.

Although Mosley has promised to dictate an all-action fight, Pacquiao has not perceived anything that has come out of the challenger's mouth as offensive.

That was not the case, however, on Dec. 6 of 2008, the last time the 32-year-old Pacquiao said that he entered the ring and fought with a disdain for an opponent.

That rival was ex-world champion, Oscar De La Hoya, whose face Pacquiao pummeled into a bloody pulp on the way to a brutal, eighth-round knockout that forced De La Hoya to retire on his stool.

"Going into that fight, when he signed the gloves before the fight," said Pacquiao, explaining his focused anger, "he signed them and he put 'I'm going to knock you out.'"

Although Pacquiao inflicted a vicious beating on De La Hoya, Roach said that there were points within the fight where Roach felt compelled to implore Pacquiao to inflict the damage.

"I said, 'Manny, it's your job to knock him out.' And I had to tell him because I saw him pull up and take it easy on Oscar," said Roach.

"But I reminded him, 'It's your job to knock him out.' And he went out and he did it," said Roach. "Manny sat down on his punches and started throwing hard shots and so forth."

Roach said, however, that Pacquiao's response against De La Hoya was in sharp contrast to that of his last bout -- November's one-sided, unanimous decision over Antonio Margarito for the since-vacated WBC junior welterweight belt.

"When I asked Manny to knock out Margarito, he chose not to," said Roach. "Manny said that there was no need to hurt him."

This, despite some pre-fight mockery from Margarito's camp concerning the physical health of Roach, who has Parkinsons' syndrome.

Instead, the deeply religious Pacquiao wished blessings upon Margarito -- "I prayed for him" -- before beating his rival senseless during much of their fight and easing up over the final stages.

"Manny Pacquiao, in the Margarito fight, he became friendly with Margarito," said Roach. "In the 11th and 12th round, Manny's asking him if he's okay, and Margarito was nodding his head, 'Yes,' to him."

Still, Pacquiao's hammering of Margarito was comprised of 474 total punches, with 411 of them being power punches. The resulting damage was that Margarito's eyes were nearly closed shut and his fractured right orbital bone required 75 minutes of surgery to repair.

"Manny told me after the fight, 'You know, this is a sport,'" said Roach. "He said, 'I was in complete control of that fight.' I did not have to hurt him.'"

But does Pacquiao have that killer instinct to finish off an opponent?

"I always have had an instinct in the fight -- that killer instinct," said Pacquiao. "Especially if I hurt the guy."

That assertion appears to have been evident during Pacquiao's knockouts of Ricky Hatton, and, Miguel Cotto, respectively, in the second and 12th rounds of bouts that took place in May and November of 2009.

Pacquiao said that he will do the same against Mosley if the opportunity arises.

"If the knockout comes, then it will come," said Pacquiao. "But I'm not looking for a knockout. What I'm just looking for and focused on is to fight good and to do my best in the ring."

Roach expects as much.

"Manny's working harder for this fight than any fight that I've ever seen. Why? Because he knows that this is not an easy fight," said Roach.

"Manny respects Shane Mosley and he knew from Day One that this was not an easy fight," said Roach. "Manny has watched Shane his whole life and he respects him. He knows that he can't cut any corners with this guy."

Ask when the last time he perceived an opponent to be as much of a threat as is Mosley, Pacquiao answered, "De La Hoya."

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Mosley has answer to Pacquiao

Shane Mosley's trainer Naazim Richardson believes he has unlocked the key to spring a surprise on Manny Pacquiao on Saturday.

Richardson, who is credited with finding the flaws that helped Bernard Hopkins upset the previously unbeaten Felix Trinidad, said he's found Pacquiao's Achilles' heel.

Mosley vs Pacquiao | Pacquiao vs Mosley
Mosley (46-6-1 39KOs) is the clear underdog to beat the champion Pacquiao (52-3-2 38KOs) who will put his WBO welterweight belt on the line at the MGM Grand.

"May 8, we'll talk about it," Richardson told the LA Times while declining to reveal exactly what Pacquiao's weakness was.

"You know, like in school, when they'd give you an answer to a problem you'd been having a tough time with. The answer is so simple you feel stupid."

Richardson apparently made the discovery while studying both new and old DVDs of Pacquiao fights, and remains confident Mosley will put the information to good use to stun the boxing world.

"I understand this is a legendary fighter, but how didn't people see this?" he said.

"[Pacquiao's] speed is incredible, we got that. But if a bullet misses you, it's harmless."

Meanwhile, Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach openly admitted on Thursday during a round-table discussion with reporters that the Filipino does have "some bad habits," but they're usually compensated by his speed and power advantage, along with his ability to fight with both hands.

"We work on [flaws] every day," Roach said.

"There's no perfect fighter out there; everyone has an opening."
In quotes used by the LA Times, Roach even leaked that Pacquiao is poised to strike when Mosley tries to unleash his left hook.

"If you counter that right, you can knock him out," Roach said.

Victory for Mosley on Saturday would be biggest of the 39-year-old's career. Mosley may be a world champion in three weight divisions (including two wins over Oscar de la Hoya) but at this stage of his career winning the WBO welterweight title would be the icing on the cake.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Mosley Will Attack Early, Pacquiao Will Be Ready - Roach

Trainer Freddie Roach is promising an agressive Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night, when the Filipino champion defends his WBO welterweight title against former three division champion Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Roach expects Mosley to bring the fight to Pacquiao in the early rounds, because he believes stamina will be an issue for Mosley as the fight moves along.

"Manny will be aggressive with Shane. Shane is a dangerous fighter with one-punch knockout power. I think he's going to come after Manny early. I think he knows his opportunity to knocked Manny out will be in the first four rounds because he knows that later in the fight his legs will go. I can expect him to attack us with his power but we'll be ready for it," Roach told BoxingScene.com.

Roach is not underestimating Mosley by paying too much attention to his recent performances against Sergio Mora and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"I don't pay too much attention to that. Fighters have looked bad in fights before and then come back. It's part of life," Roach said. "But I think we will break him down as the fight goes along and I hope that Manny can be the first guy to knock him out."

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Pacquiao will not take Mosley challenge lightly

There was no hint that Manny Pacquiao was taking "Sugar" Shane Mosley lightly as he addressed the media in an international conference call a week before their 12-round title bout on May 7 (May 8 in Manila) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, boxing's reigning pound-for-pound king, will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against ex-champion Mosley

Despite the former eight-division champ Pacquiao being seven years younger than the 39-year-old former three-division title holder Mosley, the fighting congressman from the lone district of Sarangani province said he doesn't see his opponent as an old target.

"Shane Mosley is still strong and he moves like [he's] 29 years old," said Pacquiao, who holds a record of 52-3-2 (38 knockouts). "He's the kind of fighter that you can't underestimate. He's bigger in size than me and stronger. He's a former pound-for-pound champ and still good."

Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach, who will receive his fifth Trainer of the Year award the night before the fight at the Boxing Writers Association of America (BWAA) Annual Awards Dinner, was also cautious in counting out the future Hall of Famer.
"Mosley brings speed, power and all that," said Roach. "He's got a good team behind him and we have a good challenge in front of us. Manny is motivated for a reason, because he respects Mosley. That's what excites me about it.

"The first five rounds will be very critical and the way we attack him will have a lot of thought behind it. If we just walk in he'll counter punch the hell out of us."

Mosley, 46-6-1 (39 KOs), hasn’t been impressive in his last two outings, which include a one-sided decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and a draw with the unheralded Sergio Mora.

Still, Mosley said he relishes being the underdog. In his biggest wins – a knockout of Antonio Margarito and two decisions over Oscar de la Hoya – Mosley was a prohibitive underdog.

"They said Margarito was going to kill me. People said they were scared for my health and all that crap. I had about three different things going on in my life, including a divorce. But I just listened to myself and came out with the victory," said Mosley.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Ariza Expects Mosley To Start Breaking By Round Five

SOURCE: Boxing Scene

Manny Pacquiao’s conditioning coach, Alex Ariza, expects Shane Mosley to begin breaking down by the fifth round of the upcoming fight which is scheduled for May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He feels Pacquiao will begin to overwhelm Mosley with speed and power by the midway point. Ariza saw the same thing happen in Mosley loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May or 2010. Mosley was very dangerous in the early rounds but then his stamina broke down after six rounds.

Alex Ariza | Pacman vs Mosley

“This fight will not go the distance. I hardly ever predict fights. Freddie Roach is better at that then I am, but you will see many advantages for us in this fight, but the biggest one you will see will come in the fifth or sixth round and beyond,” Ariza wrote in his mpboxing.com blog.

Ariza also wrote that Mosley made a very big mistake by holding his training camp at the high altitude location of Big Bear, California.

"High altitude training not always good. "By the time Shane Mosley steps in the ring, his body will already have become accustomed to the lower altitude. Shane’s body will automatically get used to the higher levels of oxygen that you breathe in the lower climates. There will be no benefit to what Shane tried to accomplish… All Shane Mosley did was sacrifice muscle, strength, and speed for no reason,” Ariza said.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Pacquiao best paid athlete in 2010.

MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao is truly hard to match, almost impossible, on and off the ring.

For one, he’d gone undefeated in 13 fights stretching back to March of 2005, in the process becoming the only boxer in history to win eight world titles in as many weight classes.

Manny Pacman Pacquiao | Pacman vs Mosley

Last year, he fought twice, and of course, won twice. He defeated and crushed fighters bigger, taller and heavier than him, Joshua Clottey in March and Antonio Margarito in November.

For these two fights, the fighting congressman from the Philippines earned an estimated $32 million, based on a report that will come out of the May 2, 2011 issue of ESPN The Magazine.

The $32 million, based on the current dollar-to-peso exchange rate, is equivalent to P1.376 billion. If he had all that money, he can spend P3,769,863 a day for 365 days before he runs out of cash.

It was enough to earn Pacquiao a new tag: The Best Paid Athlete of Year 2010. He shared the pricy distinction with only one other athlete, Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees.

The Magazine placed Pacquiao and Rodriguez, the 35-year-old third baseman, tied on top with earnings of $32 million each for 2010 or “the most recently completed season or calendar year.”

The amount excludes endorsement and appearance fees, sponsorship deals and other sources of extra income, the ESPN report also said.

Thirty sports were part of the report, and it featured 32 men and 11 women athletes for a staggering total of $238,536,500 or an average of $5,547,360 per athlete.

Formula One champion Kimi Raikkonen came in next with race winnings of $26,333,333 last year, and just behind him was NBA superstar Kobe Bryant with $24,800.000.

Soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal, now playing for Real Madrid, scooped up $19.5 million last year. Up next was horseracing’s Ramon Dominguez with $17,411,880.

Rafael Nadal, the grand slam king of tennis, ranked next with $10,171,998, followed by Golfer Luke Donald of the European Tour PGA with $5,867,601 and Kim Clijsters with $5,035,060.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Roach wants Pacquiao to knockout Mosley

The fight is set on May 7, (May 8 in Philippine time) as Pound-for-pound king Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao looks forward to defend his belt against Sugar Shane Mosley.

Mosley, who is also considered as one of boxings great performers will try to bring an upset against the raging Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao.  Pacquiao also admitted that Mosley is not an easy opponent.  Stating that the American fighter was once Pound-for-pound King from his era and is also quicker than his previous match-up Antonio Margarito.  Adding up, Mosley has never been knocked out before, that proves that Mosley has a strong chin.  But could age change things? Will Pacquiao get a knockout from Mosley?

Freddie Roach | Pacquiao vs Mosley

On an interview from BoxingScene.com, hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach wants Manny Pacquiao to be the first boxer to ever knockout Mosley.

BoxingScene.com: How are things going with Manny Pacquiao?
Freddie Roach: I got back Sunday night, and then, I went to the gym with Manny on Monday. And you know what? Manny was really hungry for the mitts. So we did 14 rounds on the mitts. We trained with no rest. Period. I mean, it was 14 rounds, straight through. And, he was just on fire and happy to have me home and he literally beat the sh*t out of me. And he did it in front of my mother.
BoxingScene.com: What is your mother's name, what was she doing there, and what do you mean by that?
Freddie Roach: Her name is Barbara. She comes into the gym every once in a while and she moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and she helps me run the front desk and so forth. She helps me out a lot.
BoxingScene.com: Did Manny ever slip up and miss the mitts and hit you in the face?

Freddie Roach: Yeah, but he doesn't really do it...Let's just say that it's not by accident. He does it to show me where the openings are sometimes. So he caught me about six times yesterday, just showing me where the openings were. He sort, well, didn't pull his punches, but just hit me hard enough to get my attention.

BoxingScene.com: How are Manny's body punches coming along?
Freddie Roach: Well, with the body protector on, he caught me and doubled me over at least once or twice. There was a guy there from CBS who wanted to feel the way the punches felt. He wanted to feel how hard Manny hits, and Manny dropped him with one body shot, even though he was wearing the body protector.
I mean, he had the whole camera crew there and everything, and he went right to his knees. And again, the guy was wearing my protector like I said.

BoxingScene.com: What is Manny Pacquiao's weight right now?
Freddie Roach: He's right at 151 right now, so the weight's good. We opened the gym weighing at around 146, so we get a little weight on him for the bigger sparring partners. He's doing quite well. So Manny's right on track, and he's in great shape, and we'll spar 10 rounds today. We're right in the middle of crunch time and the hard work. He's doing great.
BoxingScene.com: Do you have a formal prediction on what the result will be between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley?
Freddie Roach: I'm looking forward to Manny being the first person to stop Shane Mosley. I know that Shane's a very durable fighter and that he's never been stopped before in his life. But I'm really urging and encouraging Manny to fight at an even faster pace and to push this guy. That's because I want Manny to make a statement.
I want Manny to become the first person to ever stop Shane Mosley, and I really believe that he can do it. I think that Manny can be the first one to knock out Shane Mosley.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Mosley toughens up with 'monster' sparmates

MANILA, Philippines - Shane Mosley is taking a different approach gearing up for his May 7 fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Instead of using Pacquiao look-alikes, guys as small and as quick as the Filipino icon, Mosley has placed “monsters” in front of him in sparring.
Shane Mosley sparring | Pacman vs Mosley
This way, he told the Los Angeles Times during his media day yesterday, he won’t feel a thing when he gets to face the hard-hitting Pacquiao at the MGM Grand.

“Lately, I’ve been dealing with bigger guys, monsters. To have a guy with a smaller frame in front of me this time, he doesn’t intimidate me at all,” he said.

Mosley had great success dealing with smaller opponents, and will enjoy a couple of inches in height advantage against Pacquiao, barely 5-foot-7.

“Watching those tapes, I saw how I took it to the body and head, used my long jab,” Mosley told Lance Pugmire from his Big Bear training.

Around 50 members of the media took the bus up to Big Bear for Mosley’s media day. Pacquiao will probably host his own at the Wild Card Gym the next few days.

Mosley, who’s never been knocked out before, said he’d knock Pacquiao, and succeed where a lot others have failed.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Former champ picks Pacquiao over Mosley

When thousands of Filipino boxing fans converge in the gambling mecca of Las Vegas for Manny Pacquiao's World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title match against former three-division champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley on May 7 at the MGM Grand, former light welterweight champion Morris East will have already settled in.
East Morris | Pacman vs Mosley

The 36-year-old native of Olongapo City, Philippines has been based in the Sin City since 2002, working as a trainer and coach. Reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) light welterweight title holder Zab Judah is among the boxers he currently coaches.

Just like most experts in the boxing community, East feels that the 39-year-old Mosley (46-6-1, 39 knockouts) of Pomona, Calif. is out of his depth against the 32-year-old fighting congressman Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KO) from General Santos City.

"It's going to be tough fight, though. But from my point of view, I feel it's going to be 'Pacman' [who wins]," said East, who stopped Akinobu Hiranaka in 1992 to win the World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight title — a fight that earned the Ring Magazine's Knockout of the Year accolade that year.

East said that he feels Mosley is way past his prime. "Mosley has slowed down a bit. He's not the same compared to his younger years."

East, who retired in 1995 with a record of 20-4 (12 KO), said that the likelihood is that Pacquiao will stop Mosley for the first time in his career, although he still sees a bit of hope for the underdog.

"If he's (Mosley) able to keep up with Pacquiao's speed and get to start out the round first, then he'll have the advantage."

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Pressure Is on Manny Pacquiao to Win

No one is willing to trade places with Manny Pacquiao right now. There is a lot of pressure on the No. 1 pound-for-pound fighter to keep winning.

Not only is Pacquiao fighting for himself, but he's carrying the nation on his back. That is the price Pacquiao is paying for being the champ in a country that adores him.

Pacquiao vs Mosley | Manny Pacman Pacquiao
The Pac Man also added the duties of congressman to his job as a boxer. Now he feels that he can't let people down because they believe in him.

The Filipino Nation need not worry about Pacquiao losing. Shane Mosley, his opponent for their fight next month, doesn't stand a chance to unseat Pacquiao.

It seems at the moment that Pacquiao can handle the increased attention he's receiving. He can face the music and answer questions on whether he will fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. Pacquiao doesn't duck that question like Mayweather. We all know that he will fight Mayweather anytime, any day, anywhere, even in the back of the bus.

Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer, said that his prizefighter is bigger than Michael Jordan was in his prime and Tiger Woods. That's a bit of an understatement. Pacquiao earned every penny as a fighter and deserves his own spotlight, not an unfair comparison to a basketball player and a golfer who had extramarital affairs.

Thankfully, the Pac Man isn't in that category.

What if Pacquiao lose the fight against Mosley? Will he still be a hero in his native country? If Pacquiao retires, then he will still be a hero in his country.

A cult hero like Pacquiao is representing the people, and that's why the pressure is increasing for him to bring another victory back to the Philippines.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Sugar Shane Mosley to put heat on Pacquiao

Sugar Shane Mosley and his trainer Naazim Richardson held a media day workout at Mosley's training compound in California.

Sugar Shane Mosley|Pacquiao vs Mosley

The three-division world champion is in the final month of training ahead of his WBO (World Boxing Organisation) Welterweight Championship bout with Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines.

Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) will meet Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs), generally considered the world's top pound-for-pound fighter, on Saturday May 7th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"You know. It's going to be a great atmosphere, a great fight, it's going to be even more explosive I guess you could say when I go down to Las Vegas. It's going to be crazy. But here, you know, I motivated, this is a fight, the fight of my life. So I'm, I'm ready to just go and put it all out there," Mosley says.

"We have to prepare for it to the best of our ability. (Manny) Pacquiao had done what he's done in the past, but he's not fighting the same athletes he's fought in the past. So the adjustments we have to make, he'll have to make adjustments too. And that's why we fight the fights," trainer Richardson says.

Both fighters are known for the aggressive style and speed.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: NBA legend picks Pacman to prevail over Mosley

MANILA, Philippines – A National Basketball Association (NBA) legend is betting on Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao to conquer "Sugar" Shane Mosley in their upcoming fight.

For former Los Angeles Lakers cager AC Green, there is no doubt Pacquiao will beat American Mosley in their welterweight match set this May 7 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“Manny should be able to beat him. He should be. Who do you think is gonna win?” Green told abs-cbnNEWS.com.

“I think he will,” he added.

Green said he has watched both Pacquiao and Mosley on television, as the pugs had previously traded punches with their respective opponents.

The 47-year-old predicted a Pacquiao victory, despite being an American like Mosley.

“You root for whoever is your favorite or who you think is gonna win. I don't think where they come from matters,” he said.  Read More, ABS-CBN Sports

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Manny Pacquiao Will Outpoint Shane Mosley in a Surprisingly Good Scrap

The fight is nearly a month away but it's not too early to talk up the biggest fight of 2011. I have already stated why "Sugar" Shane Mosley is more than a live underdog against Manny Pacquiao. And here I will tell you why I think he's going to defeat Pacquiao next month.

I almost had you there for a second, huh?

I don't have the chutzpah to pick the Mosley upset, so I am going to go with my old reliable fight prediction helper. It highlights many of Mosley's advantages but it also tells me why it's still hard to bet against "Pac Man" in this one. You need to know why? Just read below.

Each fighter's competition has been world-class, so this key prediction criteria is a "push." In addition, the fight locale of Las Vegas, Nevada offers neither man a discernible advantage. Mosley's contingent will likely be out-flanked by Pacquiao's and his legion of Filipino (and other) fans, but he's no big fight neophyte. The setting will not be unsettling for "Sugar."  Read More: Bleacher Report

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Manny Pacquiao will knockout Shane Mosley within 7 rounds next month

Legendary prizefighter Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao will fight former three-division champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley on May 7 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

Strictly due to his name recognition, Mosley (46-6-1-1, 39 KOs) was unjustly selected as the opponent for Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) over more-qualified boxers like lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (52-5-1, 38 KOs) and welterweight titlist Andre Berto (27-0, 21 KOs).
Pacquiao vs Mosley | Pacman vs Mosley
Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, 50, a native of Dedham who has been honored on four occasions as the Trainer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America, said he would have prefered to “shut Marquez up.”

According to Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum, undefeated clown pocket Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs) was not an option because he again cowered and hid from a potentially lucrative bout versus “Pac-Man.”

“We put it off as long as we could,” said Arum, himself a corruptible weasel who acknowledged during a 2000 federal trial that he bribed the International Boxing Federation (IBF) to attain a higher ranking for one of his scrappers.

“He has been totally incommunicado. All he had to do was pick up a phone and say, ‘Hey Bob, wait a week, two weeks’ and we would have waited. He could have given us a signal. No one knows how to get a hold of him. The only ones who know how to get a hold of him are the police.”

Mayweather, an enormous talent who has captured nine world titles in five different boxing weight classes, currently has a defamation lawsuit filed against him by “Pac-Man” and two new impending court dates for more violent incidents he has been accused of committing.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: It Will Be Easy To Exploit Pacquiao's Flaws - Mosley

A student of the game, former three division champion Shane Mosley told BoxingScene.com earlier this week that he watched quite a few of Manny Pacquiao's previous fights. And, like other boxers, he has noticed discrepancies in Pacquiao's style. Mosley faces Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight tite on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Pacman vs Mosley | Shane Mosley

"We all have flaws, but are we able to capitalize on those flaws?" Mosley said to BoxingScene. "With Pacquiao, he throws so many punches, he fights with so much fury. But I think I will be able to exploit them. I think it's my speed, the power, even my size, will make it easy to get to those spots.

"He moves his feet very well and that can make it very difficult to exploit his flaws. He is a phenomenal fighter. I have much respect for him and this is a great challenge for me to prove I'm one of the best out there."

Mosley, speaking via telephone, said the people from Fight Camp 360 were at his camp Wednesday. And by the way, that gorgeous woman shown with Mosley in this past Saturday's first episode, is his new love, model Bella Gonzalez.

No wonder Mosley is in such a good mood these days.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: “I consider this one of my toughest opponents because Mosley is not that slow” - Pacman

This week’s 119th edition of On the Ropes Boxing Radio (brought to you by CWH Promotions) featured an exclusive interview with the reigning Pound-for-Pound King Manny Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 KOs) who is scheduled to face former three division champion Sugar Shane Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs) on May 7 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Pacquiao spoke about his upcoming fight with Mosley and other aspects of his career and the current boxinglandscape. Here is a complete transcript from that interview:

Manny Pacquiao | on the ropes

JENNA J: We are proud to introduce a man who really doesn’t need any introduction at all. He is an eight division world champion. He is the one and only Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao! Hey Manny! Are you on the line with us right now?

MANNY PACQUIAO: Yeah, hi.

JENNA: Well you’re a man who’s always in high demand. How’s your day been going so far?

PACQUIAO: I’m excited for the fight and my preparation is good. You know my training is good and I’m excited.

JENNA: Now Shane Mosley is a terrific puncher. Do you believe he is the most dangerous fighter that you have ever been set to step in the ring with and do you think with so many people heavily favoring you that you can at all underestimate him?

PACQUIAO: Well I consider this one of my toughest opponents because Mosley is not that slow. He can move fast and he has good hand speed and foot speed and he’s a former pound-for-pound so I never underestimate Mosley.

BoxingScene.com caught up to strength trainer, Alex Ariza, who has just returned from Baguio City, Philippines, where he and five-time Trainer of The Year, Freddie Roach, were working with eight-division titlist Manny Pacquiao, in preparation for the May 7 defense of his WBO welterweight belt against Shane Mosley  at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas.

Ariza will be in his seventh fight working with the 32-year-old Pacquiao (52-3-2, 38 knockouts), who will be after his 14th straight victory and his ninth stoppage during that run when he meets the 39-year-old, three-division, five-time champion, Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs).

Pacquiao is coming off of November's unanimous decision ex-titlist, Antonio Margarito (38-7, 27 KOs), which earned him the WBC's junior middleweight belt, which Pacquiao has since relinquished.
Prior to that, Ariza was first with Pacquiao when the Filipino super star debuted with a lightweight, ninth-round stoppage of David Diaz for that division's WBC crown in June of 2008, his December, 2008, welterweight debut that was an eighth-round knockout of Oscar De La Hoya , and, a May, 2009, second-round stoppage of England's Ricky Hatton for the IBO junior welterweight trinket.

Pacquiao then dethroned WBO champ, Miguel Cotto  (36-2, 29 KOs) with a November, 2009, 12th-round knockout, and decisioned ex-champion, Joshua Clottey (35-4, 20 KOs) in the March, 2009, first defense of that title before defeating Margarito.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Floyd Mayweather Envies Manny Pacquiao's Rise in Stardom

Floyd Mayweather Jr. | Pacman vs Mosley
Floyd Mayweather won't stop running his mouth against Manny Pacquiao. In a phone interview on the "Carmen, Jurko and Harry" radio show on ESPN Chicago, he was asked if a fight with Manny Pacquiao was in his future plans.

"I'm an American citizen," he said, ducking the question, "and I represent the red, white and blue. And the only thing I want is for the people in America to stand behind me."
As usual, Mayweather didn't give a straight answer. The guys on the show wanted a simple answer, which he couldn't give.
Then Mayweather said, "It's so crazy that I'm in my own country, and I have a lot of people against me. Our country is a great country, it's a clean country, and all I ask him to do is to take the test."
I think Pacquiao was ready to take the blood test. Floyd is very naive if he thinks that all professional boxers in America avoid taking some kind of performance-enhancing drugs. The stuff that was injected into Mayweather's hands was a drug, wasn't it? It eased the pain in his hands, but it was a drug.
Mayweather is jealous because Pacquiao is now the face of boxing and the No. 1 pound-for-pound king.  He also accuses Pacquiao of being a copycat by fighting the same opponents that he did, and I think that's true.
"When you sit back and think about it," Mayweather said, "I beat (Oscar) De La Hoya at a weight that De La Hoya wanted to fight at. (Pacquiao) beat De La Hoya at a catchweight, where De La Hoya killed himself to make a certain weight class.
"I beat Ricky Hatton and he followed right behind me. He goes and fight Ricky Hatton a year later. The list goes on. I just beat Shane Mosley. Now he wants to fight Shane Mosley. When Shane Mosley beat Antonio Margarito, then he goes to fight Antonio Margarito. Antonio Margarito beats Miguel Cotto, then he goes to fight Miguel Cotto. I'm just saying. That's how it goes."

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Pacquiao to outbox Mosley

You don’t have to be a master of the ring to know the key to beating Shane Mosley.

"The key (to a victory) is to outbox Shane Mosley," said Roach, who will train Pacquiao for two days in Metro Manila before returning to Baguio Sunday afternoon.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Trash Talking Starts Early

The fight between eight-division champion boxer Manny Pacquiao and former five-time champion Shane Mosley isn’t scheduled until May 7. But according to reports, the trash talking from both sides has already begun.

AOLNews.com reports that Pacquiao’s legendary trainer, Freddie Roach, recently suggested that his fighter would be the first to knock out 39-year-old Mosley in his long, decorated career (46-6-1 overall record).

Pacman vs Mosley| Sugar Shane Mosley
"Shane is a tough guy. He has a good chin and he's dangerous," Roach told AOLNews.com. "He is faster than [Antonio] Margarito, and he's a much better boxer. But I don't think he's going to last the distance. I think my guy will knock him out."

But Mosley isn’t surprised by Roach’s claims. He knew there would be criticism when he first agreed to the fight back in December 2010.

"I know that they think I'm an old man and that Manny is going to beat me. Let them think that," Mosley told ESPN.com. "I still have power and speed. They thought I was done before I knocked out [Antonio] Margarito, too. So they can think whatever they want. I know what I can do."

Famous boxing commentator Larry Merchant agreed with Mosley, suggesting that he could be a very dangerous opponent for Pacquiao (52-3-2 overall record).

"If Mosley can get in shape to fight for 12 rounds, I'm saying that Shane Mosley could beat Manny Pacquiao. But I'm not saying that he will,” Merchant told AOLNews.com.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Pacquiao’s angles to put Mosley in trouble

Pacquiao training with Coach Freddie Roach
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Freddie Roach said one of the strategies of Manny Pacquiao against the power-punching American “Sugar” Shane Mosley is the use of angles.

“Manny knows all the combinations already,” the venerable coach told The Ring Magazine correspondent Ted Lerner. “I did a lot research. If you can obtain an angle on your opponent, it makes the fight that much easier.”

The Filipino champion is scheduled to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against Mosley on May 7.

Roach said that they have trained Pacquiao to throw punches at certain angles where he is most unlikely to get hit.

“Manny’s developed that over the years. I did a lot research. If you can obtain an angle on your opponent, it makes the fight that much easier,” he said.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: "I gave Manny Pacquiao the key to victory" - Miguel Cotto

The Puerto Rican warrior Miguel Cotto who had fought both Sugar Shane Mosley(win) and Manny 'Pacman' Pacquiao(loss) gave some interesting points of view for the upcoming fight on May 7.

This weekend during a visit to ESPN Deportes' Golpe a Golpe, Cotto was more than happy to share thoughts on a November 2009 loss to Manny Pacquiao.
According to Cotto, a lapse in strategic fighting was his ultimate downfall against the dangerous Filipino.
"I was doing well the first few rounds by boxing," said Cotto.  "But when he knocked me down in the third, I stopped doing what was working and went blow for blow with him."
In in that choice, he handed the fight to Pacquiao.
"I gave him the key to victory by exchanging blows," said Cotto.
