Pacquiao vs Mosley: Floyd Mayweather Envies Manny Pacquiao's Rise in Stardom

Floyd Mayweather Jr. | Pacman vs Mosley
Floyd Mayweather won't stop running his mouth against Manny Pacquiao. In a phone interview on the "Carmen, Jurko and Harry" radio show on ESPN Chicago, he was asked if a fight with Manny Pacquiao was in his future plans.

"I'm an American citizen," he said, ducking the question, "and I represent the red, white and blue. And the only thing I want is for the people in America to stand behind me."
As usual, Mayweather didn't give a straight answer. The guys on the show wanted a simple answer, which he couldn't give.
Then Mayweather said, "It's so crazy that I'm in my own country, and I have a lot of people against me. Our country is a great country, it's a clean country, and all I ask him to do is to take the test."
I think Pacquiao was ready to take the blood test. Floyd is very naive if he thinks that all professional boxers in America avoid taking some kind of performance-enhancing drugs. The stuff that was injected into Mayweather's hands was a drug, wasn't it? It eased the pain in his hands, but it was a drug.
Mayweather is jealous because Pacquiao is now the face of boxing and the No. 1 pound-for-pound king.  He also accuses Pacquiao of being a copycat by fighting the same opponents that he did, and I think that's true.
"When you sit back and think about it," Mayweather said, "I beat (Oscar) De La Hoya at a weight that De La Hoya wanted to fight at. (Pacquiao) beat De La Hoya at a catchweight, where De La Hoya killed himself to make a certain weight class.
"I beat Ricky Hatton and he followed right behind me. He goes and fight Ricky Hatton a year later. The list goes on. I just beat Shane Mosley. Now he wants to fight Shane Mosley. When Shane Mosley beat Antonio Margarito, then he goes to fight Antonio Margarito. Antonio Margarito beats Miguel Cotto, then he goes to fight Miguel Cotto. I'm just saying. That's how it goes."

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Trash Talking Starts Early

The fight between eight-division champion boxer Manny Pacquiao and former five-time champion Shane Mosley isn’t scheduled until May 7. But according to reports, the trash talking from both sides has already begun.

AOLNews.com reports that Pacquiao’s legendary trainer, Freddie Roach, recently suggested that his fighter would be the first to knock out 39-year-old Mosley in his long, decorated career (46-6-1 overall record).

"Shane is a tough guy. He has a good chin and he's dangerous," Roach told AOLNews.com. "He is faster than [Antonio] Margarito, and he's a much better boxer. But I don't think he's going to last the distance. I think my guy will knock him out."

But Mosley isn’t surprised by Roach’s claims. He knew there would be criticism when he first agreed to the fight back in December 2010.

"I know that they think I'm an old man and that Manny is going to beat me. Let them think that," Mosley told ESPN.com. "I still have power and speed. They thought I was done before I knocked out [Antonio] Margarito, too. So they can think whatever they want. I know what I can do."

Famous boxing commentator Larry Merchant agreed with Mosley, suggesting that he could be a very dangerous opponent for Pacquiao (52-3-2 overall record).

"If Mosley can get in shape to fight for 12 rounds, I'm saying that Shane Mosley could beat Manny Pacquiao. But I'm not saying that he will,” Merchant told AOLNews.com.

Pacquiao vs Mosley: Pacquiao’s angles to put Mosley in trouble

Pacquiao training with Coach Freddie Roach
MANILA, Philippines – Boxing trainer Freddie Roach said one of the strategies of Manny Pacquiao against the power-punching American “Sugar” Shane Mosley is the use of angles.

“Manny knows all the combinations already,” the venerable coach told The Ring Magazine correspondent Ted Lerner. “I did a lot research. If you can obtain an angle on your opponent, it makes the fight that much easier.”

The Filipino champion is scheduled to defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against Mosley on May 7.

Roach said that they have trained Pacquiao to throw punches at certain angles where he is most unlikely to get hit.

“Manny’s developed that over the years. I did a lot research. If you can obtain an angle on your opponent, it makes the fight that much easier,” he said.
